Nicolas Liang

Alumni (Ph.D. 2026)
Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Stanford University

Nic joined the Chueh group in Fall 2021 after receiving his undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley in 2020. He has previous experience working in the Scott Group at Berkeley, the thin films group at The Aerospace Corporation, and the battery group at Apple. Nic's current research focus is on Li-excess cathode materials, specifically trying to define the relationships between oxygen redox, oxygen diffusion kinetics, structural rearrangements, and transition metal composition. Outside of lab, Nic enjoys playing soccer (he's pretty good), volleyball (he's terrible), Apex Legends (he's terrible) and Rocket League (he's terrible).

Nic was advised by William Chueh (Stanford). Nic was partially mentored by Zhelong during his PhD.
