Sophia Sonnert

Sophia's research characterizes battery-grade graphite to understand how the material's structure controls fast-charging performance in lithium-ion batteries. She combines electrochemical testing with advanced surface and bulk characterization, including X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and operando impedance analysis, to investigate how the solid electrolyte interphase forms and evolves on graphite over repeated charge cycles. 

Sophia is co-advised by Adam Boies (Stanford), Zhelong Jiang, Ahamed Irshad, and Jagjit Nanda (SLAC).
