Otavio Marques

Postdoc
Postdoctoral Scholar

Otavio is a postdoctoral scholar working on disordered rocksalt cathodes and x-ray spectroscopy at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. He received his BS and MS in Materials Engineering from the Federal University of Pernambuco, Brazil, and his Ph.D. in Materials Science from the Illinois Institute of Technology, in 2023. During his Ph.D., Otavio interned as beamline scientist at the Materials Research Collaborative Access Team (MRCAT) at the Advanced Photon Source, building an extensive experimental knowledge on x-ray absorption spectroscopy and synchrotron characterization techniques. His main work involves electronic (XANES) and local (EXAFS) structural changes of battery materials under electrochemical operation, having experience on diverse battery chemistries, such as Li, Na, and Li-S. At SLAC, he is applying different spectroscopies to understand not only electrochemical reactions, but also solid-state synthesis of cathode electrodes.
