Our work focuses on using X-rays to study materials and systems for a greener, more sustainable future. Using synchrotron-based X-ray tools, we look deep inside complex, dynamic systems to see how they operate and how they can fail. Then we test proposed solutions to failure pathways to create longer lasting and higher capacity batteries, electrolyzers using catalysts from more abundant materials, and more robust nutrient recovery systems.
