Save the date for the 2023 SLAC pride march celebration 

We are thrilled to announce that the Pride March is back at SLAC for the second year! Following the tremendous success of last year's event, we are excited to bring you another celebration of love, acceptance and diversity. Mark your calendars for Wednesday, July 12, 2023, from 12-2 p.m. See SLAC Today (employees only) for a calender posting you can download for Outlook, or contact the LGBTQ+ ERG council if you would like us to forward a calendar invitation. 

About the march

The Pride March will kick off at noon in front of the B53 main entrance. Before the march commences, there will be a short security briefing to ensure everyone's safety throughout the event. Just like last year, we will parade around Loop Road, spreading positivity and inclusivity. By organizing social events for all SLAC employees, the LGBTQ+ ERG aims to create a visible platform for the LGBTQ+ community, amplifying their voices and experiences. The march serves as a powerful statement of solidarity, demonstrating our unwavering support for equal rights and respect for all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. We believe that by coming together, marching with pride and celebrating diversity, we can create a workplace where everyone feels valued, empowered and celebrated for who they are.

New activities and surprises

This year, we have planned a range of activities to make the event even more engaging. Following the march, we will return to the Main Quad at around 12:45 p.m. for a celebration. Join us for brief remarks, refreshments and surprises that will make this Pride March unforgettable.

Reserve your free Pride Shirt 

We want everyone to proudly showcase their support for the LGBTQ+ community during the march. To help you do so, we plan to make shirts to capture the spirit of Pride at SLAC. A poll was conducted to select a SLAC Pride graphic design, and the winning design will be featured on the T-shirts. There will be a limited supply of shirts; to request one, please submit this form by June 1. Whether you wear one of our shirts or not, festive Pride attire is encouraged! 

Guest registration

In the spirit of fostering inclusivity and embracing our allies, SLAC employees are also invited to bring external guests to the event. If you have friends, partners, family, or colleagues outside of SLAC who would love to join us in celebrating diversity, please ask guests to register here before June 28.

A note on participation and time-charging: Supervisors are encouraged to allow employees to participate in community activities as operations permit. Employees should charge their usual PA since the activities provide value to SLAC. However, if a particular project requires work to be backfilled during this time, a separate PA number might be required. For employees who are part of a service center, they should charge their shop’s UDT (undistributed time) code. For exceptions or complex charging situations, reach out to your business manager.
